Samsung Electronics takes license to Wilus Wi-Fi portfolio through Sisvel Wi-Fi Multimode Program

SEOUL, July 14, 2026: Samsung Electronics has taken a license to Wilus’ portfolio of Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 standard essential patents (SEPs) through an agreement with the Sisvel Wi-Fi Multimode patent pool. The agreement further validates the strength of Wilus’ innovations and reflects the growing recognition of its contributions to global wireless standards.

This agreement resolves pending US patent litigation between Wilus and Samsung Electronics in the Eastern District of Texas and underscores Wilus’ commitment to the amicable resolution of licensing disagreements, with legal action as a last resort.

Samsung Electronics has also become a licensor in the Sisvel Wi-Fi Multimode program, which now offers a pool license covering the Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 SEP portfolios of 11 leading innovators.

In addition to Samsung Electronics, Wi-Fi Multimode pool licensees include ASUS, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Huawei, Microsoft, Panasonic, Philips, Sony Group Corporation and ZTE. The predecessor Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 patent pool completed deals with more than 40 companies, including Acer, Cisco, HP, and Netgear. Wilus has also announced bilateral Wi-Fi 6 agreements with Lenovo and LG Electronics.

“Today marks another important milestone for Wilus and further demonstrates the global value of our R&D-driven innovation and standardization efforts,” says Wilus founder and CEO Dr. Jin Sam Kwak. “We are pleased that our dispute with Samsung Electronics has ended in this settlement, and we welcome the addition of another major Korean SEP portfolio to the Sisvel Wi-Fi Multimode program.”

“We look forward to working with Samsung Electronics as partners in the leading global patent pool for Wi-Fi,” Dr. Kwak continues. “As more global implementers recognize the value of our Wi-Fi innovations, we remain committed to licensing our SEP portfolio either bilaterally or through the Sisvel pool on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms.”

ASUS Takes License to Wilus Wi-Fi Seps in Sisvel Pool Deal

SEOUL, May 19: ASUS has obtained a license to Wilus’ portfolio of Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 standard essential patents through a recent agreement with the Sisvel Wi-Fi Multimode patent pool.

This development brings an end to relevant litigation that had been pending between Wilus and ASUS and underscores Wilus’ commitment to amicable resolutions, with legal action as a last resort.

Litigation between Wilus and Askey, a subsidiary of ASUS, remains ongoing. Wilus believes that this dispute can be resolved through Askey’s agreement to a bilateral license with Wilus or a Sisvel Wi-Fi Multimode pool license.

ASUS joins Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Huawei, Panasonic, Philips, Sony Group Corporation and ZTE as Wi-Fi Multimode pool licensees. The predecessor Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 patent pool completed deals with more than 40 companies, including Acer, Cisco, HP and Netgear. Wilus has also announced bilateral Wi-Fi 6 agreements with Lenovo and LG Electronics.

Wilus was one of the founding licensors of the Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 patent pool and continues to participate actively in the Sisvel Wi-Fi Multimode program.

“We are pleased that our litigation with ASUS has ended in a pool license and I would like to thank the Sisvel Team for helping to resolve this dispute,” says Wilus founder and CEO Dr. Jin Sam Kwak. “Litigation is never our preferred path. It is always particularly hard for an independent R&D company like Wilus. We appreciate the support of Bird & Bird and Ampersand throughout this process. As more leading companies recognize the value of our Wi-Fi innovations, we remain committed to licensing our SEP portfolio to the industry on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms.”

LG ELECTRONICS AGREES WI-FI 6 PATENT LICENSE DEAL WITH WILUS

SEOUL – November 4: LG Electronics has become the latest company to agree a deal giving it access to the Wi-Fi 6 standards essential patents (SEPs) owned by South Korean R&D company Wilus Inc.

The agreement was reached amicably. It follows another deal signed with Lenovo in May. Many other prominent companies have licenses to the Wilus SEPs through the Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 patent pool. These include Cisco, Acer and Netgear. Wilus has invented key technologies related to wireless communications and played an active role in the IEEE 802.11ax standardization process. It makes its Wi-Fi 6 SEPs available to license on a FRAND basis, both bilaterally and through the Sisvel pool.

“We are proud to add LG Electronics, a global leader in Wi-Fi technology, to our ranks of licensees,” says Wilus CEO Dr. Jin Sam Kwak. “This agreement underscores the value of our Wi-Fi 6 innovations and the fairness of our licensing terms. Our sustained investment in R&D and innovation would not be possible without the royalties generated by deals like this.”

WILUS LAUNCHES WI-FI 6 INFRINGEMENT ACTIONS AGAINST ASUS

SEOUL, 19th June 2025 -- South Korean R&D lab Wilus has launched an action against ASUS at the Mannheim Local Division of the Unified Patent Court. The suit alleges infringement of EP 3 849 157, which reads on Wi-Fi 6 technology.

Wilus previously filed a German patent infringement case against ASUS at the Munich Regional Court on 16th April.
The actions come after a three-year period in which Wilus has tried multiple times to progress discussions with ASUS about taking a license to its portfolio of Wi-Fi 6 standard essential patents (SEPs), but to no avail.

Wilus recently concluded an amicable Wi-Fi 6 licensing deal with Lenovo and also makes its portfolio available through the Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 patent pool. The pool currently has over 30 licensees, including Acer and Netgear – both of which have signed up within the last year.

“We first contacted ASUS in 2022 about taking a license to our portfolio and have made many attempts since then to begin meaningful discussions with them,” says Wilus founder and CEO Jin Sam Kwak. “We remain committed to licensing our Wi-Fi 6 SEPs on FRAND terms. However, when negotiations reach an impasse, we must protect intellectual property into which we have invested significant time and resources through the appropriate legal channels.”
