WILUS RECOGNIZED AS ONE OF ASIA’S IP ELITE

We are proud to share that Wilus has been named a member of the Asia IP Elite by IAM, the leading publication focused on intellectual property value creation in the technology sector.

The Asia IP Elite is selected independently by the IAM editorial team, and honors companies in the region that place patents and other forms of intellectual property at the heart of their business strategies. This is Wilus’ first appearance on the list.

In announcing Wilus’ selection, IAM acknowledged its contribution to global technology standards, noting that Wilus “acquires up to 400 newly granted patents every year and actively participates in the development of next-generation mobile, Wi-Fi and A/V codec standards in 3GPP, IEEE and MPEG”.

Wilus is one of just 11 Korean entities selected, and it is the only Korean member that is not a state-funded research institution or part of a large conglomerate.

WILUS CEO DR. JIN SAM KWAK FEATURED IN IAM

IAM, the leading publication focused on intellectual property value creation in the technology sector, today published an exclusive interview with Wilus INC. founder and CEO Dr. Jin Sam Kwak.

The article traces Wilus’ twelve-year history as an independent, employee-owned R&D lab that uses licensing royalties to support its contributions to next-generation technology standards.

“The realisation that even small and medium-sized enterprises with strong technical expertise could play a role in standardisation, beyond large corporations, state-funded research institutes, or universities, inspired the establishment of Wilus,” Dr. Kwak tells IAM in the article.

The piece also presents Dr. Kwak’s views on the role played by patent licensing in ensuring the survival of independent R&D labs like Wilus:

“We believe in fostering an environment that encourages innovation while also respecting intellectual property rights. In essence, our patent enforcement strategy is a reflection of our commitment to innovation, fair competition, and the protection of our technological advancements. It's a conscious effort to ensure that our investments in research and development are respected and that we can continue to contribute meaningfully to the technological landscape."
