Wilus specializes in telecommunication and unlicensed band standards and has provided technical support for Korea's various R&D policies.
Dr. Juhyung Son, Wilus standards expert, attended the 6GHz Unlicensed Band Regulation Meeting held by the Korean Radio Promotion Association (RAPA) and the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) on February 14, 2020, and provided technical support and suggestions.
Wilus was introduced as an outstanding technology development firm by the National Science & Technology Information Service (NTIS). The R&D project conducted by Wilus was selected as the top 100 outstanding national technology developments for their standardization performance and investment in the 6th generation WLAN standards development.
Wilus CEO Dr. Jin Sam Kwak has been invited to join the De facto International Standardization Strategy Consultative Group organized by the Korean Agency of Technology and Standards (KATS).
The purpose of the Group is to establish a plan and strategy for enabling de facto standardization activities through government support. Wilus is an active member of several de facto standardization organizations such as IEEE, 3GPP, and MPEG, and has participated in a number of next-generation ICT standardization.
As a member of the Group, Dr. Kwak will participate in meetings and suggest policies to support R&D and drive international standardization activity.
Wilus Wi-Fi standards expert Dr. Juhyung Son participated in the IEEE/IETF Standards technology joint workshop hosted by the IEEE 802 Forum on December 4th, 2019. Dr. Son shared IEEE 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7) WLAN Standardization trends.
As development of the 5G standard comes to an end, observers are beginning to look at the patent landscape. Wilus Inc., along with other major tech firms, was featured in a December 1st, 2019 article in Korean Economics (한국경제) about Korea’s position in 5G patents.
According to the article, which quotes IP consultancy IPlytics, Korea ranks second in 5G patent families, after China. Wilus Inc. has participated continuously in 5G Based NR Unlicensed technology standardization, making contributions at an unprecedented rate for an SME. As of September 2019, Wilus owns 41 5G technology patents.
